I forgot to add on my last post--are there any good horseback riding places near Corozol or Placencia? Last time we went to Belize we went to this awesome ranch, Paradise Ranch or something, bit pricey but worth it...there was a waterfall dropping into a limestone pool that we swam beautiful

I don't know of any tourist-oriented horseback riding near Placencia or Corozal Town, but possibly something could be arranged.

Sorry, so far there are no horseback riding businesses in Corozal. Now that you mention it, that is something that could be used in our town. I will look around and mention it to some horse owners.

Many of the jungle lodges in Cayo have horseback riding. Both Mtn Equestrian Trails and Banana Bank, both in Cayo, specialize in riding. BB has a new Equestrian Centre I haven't been to yet, but I would suspect that the owner John Carr, a real life cowboy in the jungle, would do something really good. I've riden at MET and loved the trails. Both MET and BB have accommodations and restaurant and bar (check and make sure BB has a bar, you may have to bring your own, not sure).

Hello all.
From AC, where is the closest place to ride? My girl LOVES horses, and Id love to take her away for the day to a place where she can ride her heart out. Any suggs? We're going to the Zoo for a day too, so if there is riding nearby, maybe we can do both.
Thanks a bunch.

Uh huh. Yep. That was me.

Banana Bank is just down the road from the zoo. John Carr, the owner is great and knows all of his 60 horses. He is a gift for picking the right horse for the right person. It can be either a ride of leisure or a challenging one. It is the best way to explore the jungle. I would recommend letting them know a bit ahead of time that you will be arriving if you decide to ride there.

I saw the website for Banana bank-Sounds excellent! Do you know what age limits/restrictions there are? The only thing is 85 dollars per person per day for the riding tour thing sounds like an awful lot. Is there any way to get a discount? What about a discount for a room with either a shared or private bath? Are the accomodations nice and/or clean? I have a lot of questions

The owners of Banana Bank are personal friends, and I am sure we can work out something for you.
There are no restrictions on ages, they put you on the horse that is right for you. My nieces rode at the ages of 2, 3 and 5 and 6 years later they are still talking about the adventure.
The rooms are nice, a bit on the rustic side perhaps, but wonderful because you are in the jungle and hear the jungle sounds. There is also a jaguar on site along with monkeys, scarlet macaws, parrots, etc. and they have a huge telescope to star and planet gaze.
It is a very family oriented atmosphere. Dinners are together with John and Carolyn, the owners. John is the "horse whisperer" of Belize and has lots of tales to tell. Carolyn is an incredible and creative artist and has an art gallery on site.
The place is an adventure. If you spend a night or two, they are close to the zoo or you could visit Mayan Ruins or do a River Cave trip or a canoe trip down the river.
If you want, email me direct and we can talk lots more and as I said, I'll see what kind of deal I can get for you.

Yeah, I remember last time I went I absolutely adored the zoo. Banana Bank it is. It's funny, on our trip we will be staying @ Banana Beach on AC and then Banana Bank in Belmopan!
