Hello all. My wife and I are looking at taking a whirlwind trip to/through Belize. We are staying in Cancun for a week and have from Sat. until Tue when our plane takes off (from Cancun) to do whatever we want.
We were wanting to go to Belize (we both have passports) and then either do a cool side day trip in Belize or head on over to Guatemala, just to say we have been there.
It seems according to my research so far that the normal route is from Cancun to Chetumal on a bus, then take another bus to Belize (Corozal, B. City, etc). I read in one spot (and of course now can't find it again) about the possibility of a ferry from a place east of Chetumal to Ambergris Caye or maybe it was Corozal. Any info on something like that???
Also, what happens on the bus headed south from Chetumal when you get to the border? I would assume it would be similar to the check that you get when you cross from US to Mexico. How about the departure taxes from different countries, do you have to pay those each time you leave or just the last time? At one point, we had discussed staying in Chetumal and trying to schedule a daytrip with a travel agency into Belize.
Also, I saw in a different area that a flight from Corozal to Caulker Caye cost $24. That seems pretty cheap..is it correct or a typo??
I am looking for info/input about the above questions, but also would WELCOME any additional ideas/input.
Thanks so much for any help!!! -T.Puma
