planning a trip to cayo on June 22 - 25.

Trying to decide between the log cabins, clarissa falls, nabitunich, or arubda. We wanted to be sorta close to town on the account of no rnt a car. We were also palnning on going to tikal, Xunich. ruins, and Tunichal. Finally we weree looking for a good canoe trip where we could see some good wildlife. Any help would be deeply appreciated

All four places -- Log Cab-Inns, Clarissa Falls, Aguada and Nabitunich -- are good. If you want to be close to San Ignacio, that would rule out Nabitunich and Clarissa Falls, though both of these are relatively close to the highway so you could catch a bus. Martha's would be the other choice in this budget category, and it is right in San Ignacio; also, Trek Stop is great, in the same general area as Clarissa Falls and Nabitunich.

All in all, I think Aguada is the best value of the bunch. It's in Santa Elena, a bit away from "downtown" San Ignacio, but an easy bus ride or cheap taxi away. Or you can walk. But any of these are good choices.

Mida's is also a good budget spot. It's close to town as well.

A good (and cheap - US$3 or so) way to get to the marine terminal in Belize City from Cayo is just to catch a bus. They run all the time on the Western Highway. It's about two hours to Belize City, depending on whether you're on a local or express. The bus terminals are not too far from where you catch the water taxi -- ask directions or you can take a taxi.
