Anyone interested in High Speed Internet for Belize using StarBand. These systems use a small 4 ft. fiberglass antenna and costs $60-$75 per month for unlimited use, and always on.

STARBAND Benefits?

Would you pay less per month for high-speed Internet access? For less than a dial-up account and a second telephone line you can choose StarBand and get high-speed access with these great benefits:

* Available in all areas of Belize, including places not serviceable by BTL
* Always-on connectivity
* Downloads up to 30 times faster than dial-up access
* 10 email mailboxes
* 10 MB of personal Web space
* One-stop online shopping through the StarBand.net Web site
* No phone line required
* Web-based Email also included when not at home

....but won't Starband disconnect you if they find out you live in Belize?? I am not worried about a fight with BTL, but if the people who are supplying the satellite service aren't even ALLOWED to export it to Belize or other countries....????????

I know someone who had Starband service in Belize but had the account closed when Starband main office in the US found out the account holder was getting the service in Belize, EVEN THOUGH the account holder had paid Starband through an authorized US agent a FULL YEAR'S access in advance.

What's the deal, Mel, can we get Starband here in Belize without worrying about having our service cut off in the US??

Yes, StarBand will sometimes disconnect you if you insist that you are located in Belize. With most of the first 10 StarBand systems that we activated in Belize they were informed of where they were located and they still helped us. I do not recommend to tell them any longer.

Can you not "worry about having our service cut off" if not in the US? No. Just like DIRECTV and DISH NETWORK, you must not tell them. Only someone who was not informed would purposely tell them that they were not in the US.

So does that mean that we are in violation of Belize law, or is it only Starband that is in violation?

Can they clap us in irons?

I do not know.

StarBand is not in violation unless they knowingly activate a system outside the US, but should soon provide service to the area via StarBand-Latin. You are not breaking any US laws by having one.

Breaking laws in Belize? Have no idea... We have been legally importing them, calling them exactly what they are, and paying duties and VAT on the equipment, as well as paying the Antenna licenses.

This the response I got from them...
Dear Zane,

Thank you for contacting StarBand for e-mail support. Unfortunately, at
this time, the StarBand service is currently available only in the 48
contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Alaska. We plan to add service to
Puerto Rico soon.

Current policy/regulations prohibit StarBand from allowing us to install
a system in any place other than the U.S. However, one of our parent
companies, Gilat Satellite Networks, may be launching StarBand
affiliates in other countries sometime in the future. You may want to
periodically visit their website (http://www.gilat.com/gilat/) to see if
there are any updates regarding service in your area.

Again, if you need further assistance, please call tech support at
800-4STARBAND (800-478-2722) or e-mail us at [email protected].

Thank you,

Kirk R.

I guess don't ask-don't tell might apply...
