Have read several times not to not wear jewlery in Belize. Is this true in San Pedro? Not that my jewlery is that expensive, but would feel naked without it and if that is the case will buy some cheap rings.

I really enjoy everyone's postings and looking forward to maybe meeting some of you end of Jan and Feb. Starting to count the days now!! I love rum, sounds like my kind of place.

I wear my jewelry. Just be sure you have a secure place for when you are on diving trips, etc. I will tell you that it was a bit uncomfortable... it was so hot, and the heavier pieces (my watch) didn't last long... but then, who needs a watch in AC anyway!!

Ibanoe - thanks for the reply. Sets my mind at ease and won't have to worry about walking around with green fingers!!

Yea, and who needs a watch!! Just want to relax and enjoy and forget about time.

Thanks agan, Judy

I think what people are saying and certainly what I recommend, is don't wear your very expensive flashy stuff. You know, your huge diamond earrings. Your huge diamond eternity rings and cocktail rings and tennis bracelets, etc.

I wear my gold chain. I wear my usual watch and I take some simple earrings with me. I leave my diamonds at home.

I don't flash a wad of cash around, or at least I don't think I do.

Regardless, the last time I was there one of the DM's said I was rich. I asked why he would think that and he replied, because you are. Well, I'm not but I'm sure to many down there, I appear to be and why wouldn't they think so? That's why it's important not to flash it all around. It's possibly unsafe and very probably rude.

Don't where anything you can't afford to lose. Not because of thieves. Tourists just like to lose stuff. Its part of being on vacation.

Daphne bought several pieces in Belize, fresh water pearls, other things, and brought a few pieces with her when we were down there.
We never had any sense of hazzard. She wore what she wanted and everything seemed fine.
It's not like riding the IRT, where you really do have to be careful.

The only time I take off my big phat diamond ring is when I go to Belize City.

M IV,

My wedding set is an antique piece from the 1930's and my husband's grandmothers. I didn't want to have to worry about it being lost since it's irreplaceable. So, we bought some silver Celtic bands to wear whenever we travel just to be safe.

I normally wear inconspicuous silver hoop earrings and a thin silver chain. I find that I gain water weight when in BZE so my normal rings wouldn't fit anyway.

The other side to this is that we've never felt "in danger" in Belize; on the islands or on the mainland.

Have a wonderful trip!

Loie & RobertE
