Hi Everyone,

I've been to Placencia 1 time (for 1 night) I know..it was crazy, but I was basicly just going to do a few hotel inspections, but i'm going back for fun and staying at Roberts Grove. How do people get to town & restaurants & stuff. I wanted to have a car, but a HEFTY drop-off fee changed my mind. Is there not Golf cart rental like on AC? I'm going down with a cast on my leg, so bikes are out. Thank you!

They have bus services, small ones that run on the hour from 7am to 7pm. i think.. You may be able to get a cab, too.. The bus is not expensive... Rick

Transportation is more of a problem on the Placencia peninsula than it is on Ambergris Caye, and the distances (up to 15 miles from Riversdale to Placencia village) are much greater.

From time to time there is a van shuttle service up and down the peninsula, but I don't think it is running now. Even when it's running, it's not always running.

There are taxis, though they are surprising expensive -- up to US$15 or $20 one-way from Placencia village to the far end of Maya Beach. From Robert's Grove to Placencia village, can't recall what the taxi would be, as I always have a car, around US$5 probably.

Some places, including Robert's Grove if I recall correctly, offer bikes to guests.

By the way, my family and I stayed at Robert's Grove a couple of weeks ago. It was really terrific, especially the new "deluxe condo suites" which are fantastic. The regular rooms are only so-so. I would go for the deluxe suite or at least a junior suite. The staff is excellent, and the food at the restaurant quite good. The pool is very nice, and they are building a second pool which should be finished soon.

Hi Nannette
We were there last Oct and stayed at Rum Point. I guess with the cast on your leg ya don't want to be walking the beach and through the tree roots in the water. LOL We walked to Roberts and then back the other way clear into town. It was a lot of fun! (except for the dogs gaurding some houses who came charging and barking at us)
I would't worry so much, the hotel can call you a cab or if your lucky as we were... A waitress we made friends with had a boyfriend with a cab. Everyday when we needed one "he'd be there."
Have a GREAT trip and enjoy!
Sincerely,
Hope

You guys are great..i feel much more comfortable now. Were renting a car in Belize City & driving to Duplooys for a few days. I though i wanted to then drive to Placencia, but after Placencia i'm going to AC, so driving back to belize city and catching a flight i thought was...a bad idea?
so we'll drive back to BZE & fly to Placencia. I'm not giving up this trip..so here I go cast & all, i'm actually hoping by then Dr's will put me in a walking cast so i can get in the water...we'll see...Thank again!

Personally I'd keep the car. It's handy to have the car on the Placencia peninsula, and the drive down the Hummingbird is the most beautiful drive in Belize (the Southern Highway is great until just below the cutoff to Hopkins, but they're working on the stretch to the Placencia cutoff and it should be paved soon.)

Also, there are some day trips you can make from Placencia by car -- for example to the Cockscomb Preserve -- that will cost a lot if you do it on a tour.

By the time you add in airfares and taxis and extra costs for tours, you'll end up paying more for your transporation than if you just kept the rental car.

Just my opinion.
