Can anyone recommend lodging in Placencia (need in town); not fancy? I've tried repeatedly to reach Lydia's and haven't gotten a response. It's my 8th trip to Belize and I decided it's time to see someplace other than AC so will be down 12/30-1/2 in Placencia, but have no idea of where to stay! Thanks for you help!

We stayed at Tradewinds, not fancy but right on the water and a really good location in the heart of town, yet quiet.

I recently stayed at Manatee Inn - quiet area, walking distance to town, super clean & neat. www.manateeinn.com

I think the two places already mentioned, Manatee Inn and Tradewinds, are about the two best budget/low moderate spots in Placencia Village. Tradewinds would be my first choice, as it's on the water and this time of year shouldn't be more than US$35 or so double. Not large but pleasant (and cute) pastel cottages right on the beach.

Manatee Inn, about the same price, is new and clean, and it has a swimming pool ... but it's a "block" or so back from the water so it's a bit hotter, even with ceiling fans. The Czech couple who own it seem nice.

Other good choices in the village include Deb & Dave's (less expensive than either of the above), Harry's and Seaspray.

I find it hard to imagine that you had trouble getting hold of Lydia. Maybe there was an illness in the family or something.

Try again. I like the budget ambience at Lydia's. You will like lying in one of the hammocks on the porch while trying to decide whether you need to head back to the fridge for another beer. You will also like being able to walk across the sand to the beach.

However, if you don't like sharing a bath with similar amiable souls, you may not like it there.

I have enjoyed staying at Westwinds Hotel. Right on the beach owned and operated by a genuine character...George Westby. Try them at [email protected] Close to the Cozy Corner bar with a Palapa and hammocks cant wait to get back and waste another afternoon on the beach..

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try again to get through to Lydia's--that was my 1st choice--something simple--plus I know several of her relatives in San Pedro. Unfortunately Deb and Dave's is full, and I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple of the other places mentioned. There must be someplace for me to hang my towel at for a couple of days!

The Sea Spray is another really nice place, and it is right on the beach. Lots of rooms and inexpensive.

Placencia is one of the most beautiful parts of Belize. Visitors to belize must be sure to check out this area.
