I understand that they are having trouble with Dish Net here in Belize. My friend says that it might get better shortly, and if not, he might switch over to DirectTV.

I have noticed a slight signal reduction over the last few days. I usually get all the channels but this is after I installed the 8 foot dish. I use the 501 receiver and really enjoy it.

A lot of us have given up on the sattelite dish in this 'hood--10 maybe
Way too many reception probs from 119
We rarely get 50% of the subscription
We all bought in to the cable deal here in Tres Cocos.
Still have the dishes for emergencies though

Are you folks having these problems only with Dish Net? Or are DirecTV/PC and Starband also having problems?
Dish Net has a bad reputation for poor TV service in the US (certainly in California). I did not even know that they were offering internet access at all, in fact, I had heard speculation that they were going BK or would be acquired by a competitor for their subscriber base.
I had heard that Starband and DirecPC were working well for the relatively small number of people who were using them for net access in Belize. Is that not the case?
There is some company named Galaxy that is advertising satellite net access in Belize but they do not provide much info on their web site, just a lot of hype. They do not tell you whose satellite they are using (I don't know of a "galaxy" bird up there and assume they are using someone elses and acting as a retailer but maybe that's wrong...)
Due to the lack of a viable transparent legal system in Belize, I would personally base a purchasing decision 99% on word of mouth references from current customers, since there is no practical way of recourse if they don't produce and you want your money back (other than spreading the word about the bad results...)

For those of you with Dish Network, I would ask if you are willing to make a change. The change would be that if you were willing to re-aim your antenna to the Dish Network 110 Satellite, you could then receive many of the local Networks from around the US (such as Austin TX or Sacramento, many are available and presently work well in San Pedro). This would both require that you re-aim your dish towards the Dish 110-sat, and also re-establish your address to one that qualifies you for this local City.

Channels that are available on the 110 sat are available at http://www.lyngsat.com/dig/dish5.shtml

For those of you that does not like this solution, I recommend that you switch to DIRECTV service. Most all channels are PRESENTLY working in San Pedro. Channel line-up for DTV can be found at www.directv.com

Please post any further questions, or visit www.dbstvforum.com

STARBAND and DIRECWAY having problems? Not that we are aware of.
