Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have
lived as long as we have:
As children we would ride in cars with no seat belts
or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day
was always a special treat.
Our baby cribs were painted with bright colored lead
based paint. We often chewed on the crib, ingesting
the paint.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles,
doors, or cabinets. When we rode our bikes we had
no helmets.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of
scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out
we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times we learned
to solve the problem.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
as long as we were back when the streetlights came
No one was able to reach us all day.
We played dodgeball and sometimes the ball would
really hurt.
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar
soda, but we were never over weight; we were always
outside playing.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the
team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with
Some students weren't as smart as others so they
failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same
That generation produced some of the greatest
risk-takers and problem solvers.
We had the freedom, failure, success and
responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it

There is only one cure for baldness. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the guillotine.

Grace....that is quite funny that you mention that. My wife tells me stories how when the truck use to pass through her neighborhood, all the kids would follow it with their bikes! I told her that explains how she has been married to me for over 20 years!

Reality is due to lack of alcohol

my son would run in the house yelling "the stink truck is coming!"
i thought only david was a "stink truck" follower.
we lived so far up in the mountains that there was no stink truck - we just got mosquito bit during the summer.
i did survive most all of the other things on the list tho.

This brings to mind the many days of summer and fall that I would take off with a buddy (9-10 Yrs of age)and go "Camping". Build a fire and cook the rabbit we shot with our '22' or the fish we caught with a throw line and be out for 2-3 days. No one worried. In the winter, at the same age, I would sneak theough the woods to a very exclusive neighborhood(not ours) and shot geese with my grand dads ole 12ga shotgun, wade into the freezing water, grab the goose and run like hell before the security guard could get there. They knew it was me, they just couldnt catch me.! Hitch hiked to calif and back at 14, even road a train we hitched(hobo). No one worried. Now I carry a weapon. There must be something to this. confusedDidnt see any Mice(plural for mQQse0

Seems they wanted to suck all the fun out of childhood for those who came after us. 2 yrs ago when we were in AC after the storm, we were in a van heading to Paradise Villas from the airport. There was a kid playing on top of a sand pile on the street, about maybe 2. The cars and golf carts were going by 2 feet away. Not one adult was having a heart attack (except maybe my wife), but all the drivers had an eyeball on the kid. It struck me that that kid was enjoying what our kids never get to, just having fun without a helmet.
Hey, we used to lose a few along the way, but we still do.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt
