Suggest you have a look at this site. It covers many things in Northern Belize. The site link is:

Also a good hotel in the Corozal area is The Corozal Bay Inn. Here is a link:

First, I disagree about Corozal Bay Inn, which is next door to Tony's. I used to recommend it, but the condition of the apartments is such that I would stay elsewhere now. I'm told also that the apartment units are being sold. Perhaps they will be upgraded. I'm not sure if they will remain as hotel lodging or not.

There are only two choices in Consejo, which is about 7 miles from Corozal Town -- Casablanca by the Sea and Smuggler's Den. Both are good places and moderately priced. If you will look at the Other Areas section of this board, I recently posted extensive reviews of all the places I recommend in Corozal and Consejo.

Thanks Sandcrab and Lan for your quick replies.

Sandcrab I will look at both web sites.

Lan I will look at both hotels on the net, and also your posted reviews.

Thanks again.

I stay at Corozal Bay Inn every trip to Corozal, and there have been many. Last week being the last trip. I think it is a wonderful place for the price. The owners are there 24/7 and have just renovated the poolside lounge/restaurant. Place was hopping on the weekend. Hobnobbed poolside with a Nobel Prize winner and the Chairman of the Sugar Cane Association. Work will be begining soon on more waterfront rooms (not suites), I was told. People from the Mexican Embassy were in the suite next to us and all the units were full. Casablanca is FAR out on a dark and scary road (at night) as is Smugglers Den which we found out is a hideout for filandering husbands. Casablanca's manager was drop down drunk and very annoying when we went there for supper. Been told this happens regularly. Of course this is just my 2 cents what I think about the situation in Corozal Town. Not too sure why Lan hates CBI.

I don't think Lan hates any property. I had some comments sent to me much the same as yours, Ragga. Maybe your comment will help to initiate an update for CBI by Lan.

I certainly don't "hate" Corozal Bay Inn. I think the bar, restaurant and pool are very nice.

I have stayed in nearly all of the hotels in Corozal at one time or another -- Tony's many times, Casablana several times, Hok'ol K'in, Hotel Maya and others. My family and I have stayed in the suites at CBI. The suites were rental apartments for many years before being converted to their present use. It is nice that they have two bedrooms.

But, we were not happy campers -- the beds were like the beds hotels used to have in Belize 20 years ago, before hotel operators figured out that you can't charge U.S. rates with el cheapo bedding. The furniture dated from the same period. It was hot, with no A/C. The sink and the kitchen appliances needed replacing years ago. The whole place looked like it needed a good cleaning and new paint. If we were paying US$25 maybe it would be okay; not for US$60 off-season in Corozal!

Hope the new rooms are nice.

If you are planning to stay awhile, you might want to contact Bill Wildman who owns a lot of property in Consejo. There are sometimes houses available for rent, though I think they are usually for longer terms than just a few days. try and definitely go there if you are looking for real estate to buy in that area.
There used to be a really neat little resort there called "Adventure Inn." Too bad it shut down, it was nice, and very reasonably priced, and had a very good restaurant too.
Has anybody re opened Don Quixote Hotel yet, Lan? I hear it changed hands several times but nobody ever re opened it. It looks like it was a lovely place too. I guess its hard to make it in the tourism business up there, but the retiree business is doing very well.
