I'm in the SE part of the state, right on the border between Oakland and Macomb counties. I've done one surf and turf trip and will do my second Feb 13-20.

I'm going to stay in San Ignacio for a week to see the ruins and do the rain forest. Then I'm coming to AC after that and I've attempted to get certification prior to going but it doesn't seem it will be possible so I'll probably be snorkeling, kayaking, swimming and just want to have fun!

Any advisory tidbits would be helpful

Howdy ChooChoo! I'll be back at the Hideaway again, this time with Hubby and the kids in tow. The gals there are great and the price is right. We'll be on AC for 3-4 days then to Banana Bank Lodge in Cayo for horseback riding, canoeing, ruins, butterflies and the zoo. I can almost hear the coconut rum calling my name....
Nameste: You should be able to do all of the classroom and pool work before you go, then do your check-out dives once you get to Belize. Many people do it that way. The other option is to do the Resort Course. That entails getting to the diveshop early and watching a thrilling video (Water: It's Everywhere!) next you learn to clear your mask and breathe through the regulator in shallow water. You can then go on shallow dives and the Dive Master controls your depth. Don't miss the opportunity to dive, it's truely an unforgettable experience.

How close are you to the Straits of Macinac? With all of the underwater preserves in northern Michigan, there should be something available. What towns are you close to? I know a diveshop owner that may have some ideas.
