on our last day to belize we landed at the disgusting water terminal in belize city where you have to pay to use probably the worst bathrooms in the whole country and then i remembered something about a new tourist village that's just a few blocks from the water terminal.... after finding it we spent the next 3 hours there....it's is a very nice collection of about 45 shops where you can get all your souvenirs before the trip home...everything is neat and clean and the prices aren't bad either.....also found out they were going to start bringing the water taxis there soon thank goodness....check out the tourist village it's nice!!!!

LOL, that's so funny about the bathrooms. When I was there the men's room was out of order. Men and women were both using the ladies. It was somewhat disconcerting to say the least, you know, on top of how gross the bathroom was in general.

Me, I always enjoy the Marine Terminal. So much going on, so many interesting real people, Belizeans and visitors. Unlike the Tourist Village which is, uh, for tourists, one-day wonders vomited from the cruise ships who will never be back to Belize again.

I agree with you, Lan. I've used many bathrooms in Belize worse than that at the Marine Terminal in Belize City, but I'd still go back to the places. Hard to explain when most people are used to air conditioning and hot water....

Um, I meant that the bathroom was pretty disgusting considering that you had to pay to use it. I've certainly been in worse, sorry to say. LOL

my point was if you have to pay for a toilet you should get more then 3 squares of toilet tissue at the entrance.....lan you seem to tell everybody to skip belize city when you get to belize and now that they have a clean place to go and shop you diss it...when we went there were no cruise ships and only about 10 other folks there....i despise malls as much as the next male but who wants to carry around souvenirs for a whole week when you can get them on the way out of the country at a nice clean place!!

I agree, I've been in much worse bathrooms than the Marine Terminal, it at least has running water. I would rate as the worst, the old nasty bus station in Orangewalk (floaters on the floor and spigot into bucket to wash your hands, no TP). Lan, I could forward you (for your next book) my ratings for the best and worst bathrooms in Belize. Here's a sampling....
Public:
The bathrooms at the Novelos bus station in Belize City are newly renovated with a very attentive attendant, who give you 5 squares of toilet paper for your 2 shillings.

My first thought reading this was that Orange Walk bus terminal! My first week in Belize, it was, and a very hot day....

There are rules for traveling in or thru 3rd world countries, of which NO. 1, whether you are traveling 1st. class, 2nd. class or no class, always, I repeat always carry a roll of toilet paper with you when you are away from your hotel room, cruise ship, private yacht, motor home or what have you.

I learned the hard way.....
