I am planning to visit Tikal during the second week of May, and I want to stay at the Tikal Inn for one night. Does anyone know if it is necessary to make reservations? And what are the rates like during May? Thanks.

Although I didnt' stay in Tikal (stayed in San Ignacio and made a day trip), my impression was that Tikal was VERY crowded, at least in mid-June when we were there. I would make a reservation. Better safe than sorry.

theres a town called Flores that's real close to tikal and i understand that it's a great place to stay it's on a very large lake (petin) i believe......

It is very difficult to book reservations for the Tikal jungle lodges as they are out in the bush and unavailable by modern communiations. No way to phone, fax or e-mail a reservation. As far as I know, someone in Flores (one hour away by road) takes the information, and certain times a day / week / whatever, they RADIO the lodges and relay the reservation information.
