I just transfered my in vitro born orchid out of the tube and into a real starter pot!
has anyone else purchased one of these from Belize before? Any suggestions? I am gonna count to see how long it lasts.

The most common mistake folks make is to over-water ..... these plants seem to thrive on neglect!

Sara, where did you get your orchid? I wanted to bring one back for my neighbor who grows them but never found where to get one.

Sara, I was looking for the black orchid when I was there a couple of weeks ago but surprisingly they told me that it does not grow there any more. Do you know where i can find one in Belize?

I don't know where to buy the black orchids... someone came around to Caribe Island a few weeks back selling some and we bought about 15 of them to put around the property.
I'll check with our manager and see if he knows...
Cheerz.

but how do you get them past U S Customs? It's illegal to bring vegetative matter into the US without a license. Certainly we wouldn't to "forget" now would we??? wink

AHha! I have all of your answers!!!!!
I purchased an invitro Black Orchid At the Belize Botanic Gardens gift shop in Cayo. It was in a little plastic vial and the plant itself grew from an agar nutrient base so there was no soil to harbor disease. It also came with certified papers stating that it was raised in a disease free environment. Now! Your not supposed to have any trouble getting these specimens past Agriculture inspectors and I didnt but that is all I will say about that!
