Thank God, i almost never get seasick, maybe i am too dense to get sick. However, my wife gets seasick soon as one-foot waves at times ! Of course everyone has home-remedies, the Rastas in dangriga will tell you to smoke Ganga, the san pedranos will tell you to swim around the boat, the Gautemalans will tell you to drink guaro {cheap-rum}......etc. What is a good safe overcounter med, that will keep your johnny-cakes and your morning coffee in your stomach instead hitting the blue caribbean ? mel s.......

Mel,
My experience is that when you feel the sickness coming....
just get your eyes focused on the horizon....It always helps for me at least.
Well, I didn't try to swim around the boat yet.... =))
Hope this helps,
Fred

Breakfast before going on the boat, ginger snaps and ginger ale, is helpful. Works for me. Save those johnny cakes for a morning when not boating.

While in the boat, do not lean over getting your head low to the bottom of the boat, like fiddling with your gear under the seat. Have someone hand up your gear, and fiddle with on your lap, keeping a focus on the horizon. Keep your head high and eyes forward.

This follows the above post, of focusing on the horizon.

I do not sit on the boat when anchored, the wave action will get me, everytime. I wait in the water not on the boat, on snorkeling trips.

Two ginger capsules with 2 glasses of water 30 minutes prior to boating works for me - learned it in San Pedro. Ginger capsules available at health food stores in US.

My friends used the pressure point wrist bracelets to great effect. And I advocate Gravol, just make sure to take it about 1/2 an hour before boarding. It doesn't work if you take it after you are already feeling sick.

my suggestion is to stand up and develop a set of sea legs, which could be an effective combatant of seasickness, kinda takes your mind off the disorientation. at the very least one could limit the area of the hurl with balance.

If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.

I could use some help with this too. I don't have problems in the boat but when I snorkle I get so nauseated - have to get out of the water for an hour to get my stomach calmed down. Puts a bit of damper on something I really enjoy. confused

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.
