mad Last 3 weeks I went to San Pedro for a little vacation I decided to buy my wife some Belizean Jewlery so I went to Toucan Too & I bought a pair of earings, a bracelet, a chain, & a dress.
It costed me $55 but I made them charge it with my Credit Card & they said they charge 5% for Credit Cards which is illegal so I think if their bank would find out they would be shut down for charging 5% when it is suppose to be only 3%! IT IS BAD SERVICE! mad

Illegal is probably not the right word. As I understand it a merchant agrees not to charge a surchange as part of the terms of their contract with credit card company. So they might be breaking a contract with the credit company and at worst the credit card company could refuse to do business with them.

This is stinks for the consumer by the way. Prices are generally elevated across the board so that the merchant can pay fees to the credit card company.

Even if everybody paid off their credit cards every month they would still make money. Where do you think that money comes from? It comes from anybody who shops...no matter how they pay. And only because the credit card companies have strong-armed most merchants into charging one price no matter whether cash or charge.

This is common practice. Look at it as a convenience tax or do as I do, carry cash.

and how does TUG know its 3% for that particular merchant anyway. Merchant fees are based upon volume.
