Tried AC board and no help, so I'll try this one. We are bringing toys for the kids, and would like to know how to go about it, or a contact person to help.
Post or e-mail me at thenry@net-link.net

Chipper and Polly,

I could be wrong about this but you might want to try and contact the Lion's Club on AC. From what I have read they do a lot of good work...

We're going down in March and had thought about doing the same thing as you but were not certain what to do with it when we got there. The Lion's Club is mentioned on this site. Maybe there is a contact email...anyone know??? Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I saw both of your posts and no reply. Good luck with it.. smile

Thank's for trying to help. I know I read last summer of a person on AC requesting gifts for kids. I have not yet been able to find it by doing a search, & was hoping some of the "regulars" could help. However, it looks like their main concern is tainted dog food, feeding crocodile, internet, and of course - ALCOHOL. I have received an e-mail from the mainland from a pre-school, & will be sending them some of the items.

Many of the regulars on this board will be more than happy to help you and give you some answers. However can I make a suggestion... you write your posting and request in another section of this board... in the "About Ambergris Caye" section.

The purpose of this particular section is for the regulars to act up, kid and play around.

Hope this helps and you get the info you need.

Here's a thread from last year with contact info for someone who can help distribute gifts and school supplies:

//ambergriscaye.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=007162

And another more recent one:

//ambergriscaye.com/message/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=007808#000002

You can also ask the staff at your hotel for suggestions on how to distribute the goods. I'm sure some will have school-age kids and know how to contact those in need. And if nothing else works out for you, just go to the park and hand them out!

Having gone to Honduras the last 5 years and being hosted by the Lions, that is what I would recommend. You should be able to find them under Lions International on the web. School supplies are also very needed such as pencils, erasers and paper.

Hi, I live here in San Pedro and some friends of mine sent boxes of toys for Christmas for the kids of town...took us two weeks to get through customs and they wanted a mint for duty!!! I highly recommend going through the Lions Club of San Pedro, they have government connections and can get duty-free into country and also distribute them for you. There are a lot of underprivileged children here and they would love the toys, clothes, school supplies, etc.

Thanks for the help. Janet, that is the one of the postings I was looking for. I will also try to contact the Lions Club, as I hope not to pay duty.
Denny Shane: If you read my posting, you will see that I posted first on the AC board. As there were no responses there, I decided to try this board.
