Officials always stamp my passport when entering Guatemala at the Benque/Melchor border.

Barbara is right that Hidden Valley is THE place for accessible water falls. I once spent the day swimming at one not far from the lodge -- absolutely beautiful, and not another soul around. I don't think I saw any waterfalls when I stayed at Ek'Tun, though there are several caves nearby. And there's a terrific natural swimming pool at Ek'Tun.

Peter,

Ek'Tun, owned by Phyllis Dart, originally from Colorado, is maybe 12 miles up the Macal River from San Ignacio. Going toward Benque, you turn left on the Chial Road like you're going to duPlooy's or Chaa Creek but then bear right toward Black Rock Lodge. It's maybe 3/4 of a mile before you get to Black Rock. But it's on the other side of the Macal, so you have to wait until they send a boat over for you. Great place -- just two cabanas.

What is the food like?
Do they have cold Beer?
