I see you are a pet behavior consultant - Might you answer a question or two?

1. Female golden retriever has, since birth, acted as if she is covering something in her food bowl. She will do this before, during, and after a meal. She has literally rubbed all the black off her nose which is now pink.

2. We started making their (we have the female (7) and a male (8)) dog food about 4 months ago. She scarfs it down and she does not hang around to "cover" it like she used to do the Science Diet we previously fed her.

OK, that is it. If you lived her in the states you could ask me something about home financing, since that is what I do, but since you don't I do not know how I might be able to reciprocate for your answer.....

Thank You

Malibu, I'm not a pet behavior specialist, but I do raise Golden Retrievers and Labs. I'll respond since no one else has yet. My thoughts are that the lady may have been suffering from a vitamin or mineral defficieny.

My personal opinion is that Science Diet is over rated and over priced.

Well, I'm not a pet behavioral doctor, nor do I have any dogs, or cats, canaries, or anything else. After studying your question indept Mailbu, the answer just popped right out at me and you gave us the answer yourself.

She obviously LOVES the Science Diet so much so she lets everyone know... try and take my food and you suffer the consequences.

On the other hand now that you make her food, and she obviously doesn't care if you or anyone else takes it... she's almost begging someone to come and take it.

I am hoping you'll offer me the same advice for free. I have my eye on this beautiful house in Bellaire for 2.5 million. I have exactly $57.63 in cash. My question is: should I buy pizza tonight or buy 57 lottery tickets for tonight? eek

Cracker: You've got my vote on Science Diet= overrated and overpriced. Also it is packed FULL of fillers... Very interesting - vitamin or mineral deficiency. Do you by chance make your own dog food? It is a large chore! Just made 130 lbs this weekend. The kids (doggies, not human kids of which we have none) absolutely LOVE it. We have been advised by Vet to feed certain amounts but the kids look too underweight to mom and pop so they are getting over double what the Vet suggested.

Denny: Get a small Pizza and 30 lotto tickets.
Good luck!!! laugh

Malibu, no, we don't make our own dog food, other than what's left over from dinner. They do get all the scraps, especially vegtables and meat.

Believe it or not, we have been getting the best results lately from the Walmart brand, Ole Roy. It is available in low and high protein. This feed has given us the best health, coat and weight management of anything we have found. Been raising dogs for over 30 years BTW. Hardworking hunting dogs, not couch potatoes (except for one female Golden who is most definately a couch potatoe). The vet always comment on their health and can't believe it when we tell him what they eat. Of course, the vet pushes Eukanuba, which is right there with Science Diet IMHO.

My second choice is Field Trial. Another very good feed for a reasonable price.

Used to be a fan of Purina, but we had several dogs develop cancer at early ages so gave it up. I don't know, but we hadn't had any more trouble like that in a few years.

Hello, This question has nothing to do with dogs. I will be arriving in AC on September 24th.
Can anyone tell me what where

would be a great place to hang on Friday evening?

Thanks,

This has got to be the best thread on this board to date. Oh, except for advanced diving topics and such.

Dear pet shrinks and pet shrink wanabees,

Our dog likes to snack in between meals at our cat's litter box. Our vet told us that this is perfectly "natural". But I am convinced that it is a sign of a major psychological problem and that it should be treated with electric shock or brain surgery or some other drastic method. Any suggestions?
