Anyone eaten at the Blue Water Grill, the new place in the Caruso's/Rasta Pasta location at SunBreeze? How was it? Prices? Who's running it? Thanks.

I've never eaten there, but one of the chefs is Chap, the former head chef from Chan Chich, he's not an owner though. They are doing sushi one night a week and Pan-Asian food. I hear great things about it.

It is run by Kelly McDermott (Jerry's daughter). Very upscale for Belize. In the Capricorn and Rendezvous catagory. Appitizers from $15 for conch ceveiche to $24 for pan-fried Belizean shrimp cakes with sesame butter. Salads from $13 for garden salad to $23 for grilled shrimp with fresh greens, avocado, riverwalk oranges, potatoes and citrus vinaigrette. Pastas from $24 to $30. Entees from $30 for teriyaki grilled chicken with Asian cut vegetables and ponzu sauce to $50 for mixed grill of lobster, shrimp and snapper in a tomato-ginger sauce. $40 for bacon rapped beef tenderloin with creole mustard honey black pepper sauce. Shushi on Tuesdays from $10 to $14. I have been there for the Shushi. It was very good. Going this weekend to try the regular menue. I too have heard good reports on the food. Might be a little too "California-izd" for you Lan. LOL.

Looks like you stole a menu?
We need a place like that in town.
Good luck to them.
I just hope they don't get to cosmic with the food or the prices.

California-izd.....that's it, my Texan group was not impressed. They could choose any place or price, but we only ate at Blue Water once, in 14 days. Three of them left more than half of their Pasta with Seafood. They all love Seafood. My vegetable Tempura was great, but small portion for the price, presentation was nice. So we hot footed down to Manelly's (sp) ice parlor, to finish our meals. The ice cream is super.

Whew, those prices are ridiculous!
Why would anyone shell out that kind of dough for lah-di-dah bland gringo food when they could chow down on stewed chicken, rice and beans, or fresh fish or lobster or jerk at places like Jambel's, Ambergris Delight, The Reef, Papi's and the talented ladies with the street stands` for a fraction of that (over) price????? Fugeddaboudit!
I do miss the great food at the old Barrier Reef Hotel too and Rasta Pasta....

Right, BH whoops, I am showing my age. BZ dollars. I agree. Very pricy. But, keep in mind, it is very difficult and expensive to get many of the things needed to prepare this kind of a menue. There are other things besides rice, beans and chicken that one needs for this type of presentation. Speaking as one who lives here a good part of the year, it is nice having the option of another choice for dining without having to take a two hour plane ride and clear customs in order to enjoy something other than rice and beans. As one who enjoys eating, the more variety San Pedro has to offer, the better. I wish Kelly good luck in her endeaver. I plan to support her establishment. But the rice, beans and chicken salesmen have nothing to worry about. I won't be eating at Blue Water every night. Oh, and Chloe, after I am in Texas for awhile I crave something other than Tex-Mex. Fortunatly, there are other choices.

Mixed reviews from us...

Spouse had a wonderful miscellaneous (possibly "island blackened") fish of the day.

I, thinking I would break down and have my only non-fish meal in nearly 2 weeks(and figuring that a place called "Caruso's"--the old sign wasn't down yet--had to produce great Italian), had the mushiest, pastey-ish, nastiest gnocchi in the blandest, thinnest cream sauce of my life. Gotta admit...I left most of it, too. (Though SCARFED from the Spouseman's plate.)

I chose poorly, Grasshoppah.

We'll maybe try it again this year...probably at lunch. All-in-all our last meal was not a great value for the price.

(Giggling...) Had great company, though!

K.
