No safe in my room. If there was one in the office I didn't know about it. We own a timeshare and we just check in and go to our room. The owner bought us dinner and said they were looking into the matter. I heard that the same thing hapened a few weeks ago. I learned my lesson and it will never happen again to me. That's why I am warning others who may be going to Belize. There is crime everywhere so it was foolish for me to have left my purse and wallet in the room when I went to the pool.

Did you leave the door to your unit unlocked?

I don't know any hotel anywhere in the world where I would leave cash easily accessible to others. Not AC, not anywhere. Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't even do that in my home, if I wasn't going to be there.

Cash,gold,diamonds...stuff them in your pocket, wherever you go,and keep checking to be sure,but...not in front of a crowded place.Blame goes to nobody but yourself, this can happen anywhere on the globe.Good lesson to have learned, always keep in mind, ruthless people are everywhere, not just on this island.Ride a subway someday.

I leave money and valuables in my room from time to time. However, I don't leave it in the usual places and I don't put it all together in one place. The bad guy(s) may get some of it, but they're going to have to work for it, doggoneit.

i'm thinking the thief should get SOME blame.....and a GOOD lesson to learn is that drinking pina colada's to quickly will give you brainfreeze.

When on AC, cash flows out of the wallet like water running to the sea! All by my own hand...

We knew the unit didn't have a safe and checked a bank bag out. Bank was very accommodating. All valuables were put in the bag, locked and then locked inside the luggage. Bigger items were locked inside the luggage. It wouldn't stop a thief with time to cut open the luggage...but it is a hindrance. wink

Safe deposit boxes, office safes, Pelican boxes (locked), lock your doors, carry it on you.

Been all over the place and never lost any cash. But I'm glad to know that crime in Belize is that rampant. I think there was another crime in SP earlier this year and one last year, too...from what I read here.
