Personally I recommend Smith Farm. I have stayed there myself and like the friendly local vibe. All cabanas, etc were handmade by Roy who owns it. I like to support that. They do have fans but I stayed there in January so didn't use them. It is walking distance to the town of San Ignacio & the branch of the Macal & Mopan Rivers. Great location. Midas is in about the same location (diagonally across the road) but I have not seen the cabanas. I did have clients who stayed there and liked it. I have seen Parrot's Nest but was turned off by the obnoxious owner. I have since heard he is not living on site anymore so it may be better now. They are located right on the river in Bullet Tree Falls so further from any town but...right on the river. If you decide to stay at Smith farm, I would suggest calling them to check availability (011-501-824-3632) as they get a lot of repeat business and people staying for several weeks. It was $25/nt including tax last time I checked. I send many clients there looking for a budget place where they can really meet the locals. FYI - they do not provide daily maid service. They sweep your porch every morning and bring you coffee but don't make the beds, etc. Great for families as there are always lots of kids around. I had my 5 yr old with me and he had a ball and made lots of friends. Lush grounds with orange trees for picking, coconuts, etc. I have pics if you'd like to see them. (I tried to take pics at Parrot's Nest but the owner wouldn't let me!!!) Feel free to email me for more info.
