Have any of you been to Tortola? If so.....can you give a comparison between AC and there?

In 1979 so it's probably not helpful. My personal opinion is that Placencia gives more of a BVI feel than does AC, AC is much more of a Spanish fishing village grown up feel (of course that's what it is so no wonder).

I have been a number of times. No beaches to speak of except for the Half Moon Bay area( gorgeous) on the opposite side from Raod Town, the bareboat capitol of the world, much more English related, the people of the BVI make those indigenous to AC look like A Types, have equally good rum, home of the underwater shipwreck off Peter Island featured in the movie The Deep with Nick Knowlty (sp?) and Jaqueline Bassset (SP?) which was the old British mail ship The Rhone (my first diving in 1977 or so), rather more expensive rooms, NO strolling along the beach for miles, drive on the wrong side of the road, one-twentieth of the restaurants and one-tenth total rooms ...AC far surpasses it in every category I can think of.
