NYG, what's up??? you ok?

Last night, a very close childhood friend broke the news to me that she has cancer. I was in shock then, and today am wondering how best to help her, what to say, what to do. I really am lost, but it's not about me, it is all about her. I don't want her to feel she must play the part of comforter to me. I really don't know how to handle this. She has been a large part of my life for so long, and I want her to remain in it. I don't know if there is any right way to be, or right words to say. I just don't want to say the wrong thing.

You'll know the right time to say & do the right thing - it's an inborn thing we all have, it sometimes doesn't make itself known to us until we are challenged beyond what we think our boundaries are. She'll be strong and when she isn't you'll be there for her and she'll prop you up too, without her even knowing it. That's what friends do.

sorry for your situation dobie. I've had a couple of friends near death....and yet with my
help and encouragement, along with their internal strength have made it. Then I've also had very dear ones....too young to die, I've lost as well. Just be there for your friend. You're a good friend and I know you'll do what's right. Love ya.
