Navigational Aids Installed At Haulover Creek
Entrance
23 December, 2003 - Belmopan
The Belize Ports Authority is pleased to
announce the installation of
navigational aids at the entrance to Haulover
Creek. Six lighted buoys
marking the newly dredged channel are now in
place.
Under the direction of the Belize Ports
Authority and with funding from
Fort Street Tourism Village, 3D Marine Belize
Ltd designed, constructed
and installed the six buoys that were
fabricated entirely in Belize. Sub
contractors on this project were Baraka Ltd.
for foam, Richard Jex
Welding, for steel work, and Neon Plastics for
lettering.
The buoys, constructed of locally available
materials, conform fully to
IALA Region B Conventions, and US Coast Guard
standards for construction
and visibility. They are lighted and equipped
with radar reflectors for
visibility in all conditions.
Captain Suddes, Ports Commissioner stated,
"Navigational safety has been
greatly improved because of these buoys. Among
those to benefit will be
the cruise ship tenders and local traffic. 3D
marine has provided a
suitable buoy for use in Belize waters, to
properly mark hazards to
navigation."
The Belize Ports Authority, through its
agreement with 3D Marine Belize
Ltd, will next install buoys and beacons at the
entrance to the newly
completed wharf in San Pedro, Ambergris as well
as buoys at Porto
Stuck.
