Well, if you didnt notice -- the oil that they're searching for is not on the coast, so all of these comments are pointless. Perhaps a little premature to think about oil spills when you haven't got oil yet. DUUUUUUUUH....

senor_reek, The last time I was in Corozal, or anywhere else in Belize I didn't notice any oil refineries. So that means a couple of things for Belize to benifit from all that oil. It will be trucked or barged to a refinery and then trucked or barged back to Belize after it is made into a usable product. Or, a refinery will be built and the fuel will be dispersed throughout Belize by truck and barge. Then the battle will be where to put a refinery for the minimal environmental inmpact! AS some one who buys 15,000 gallons of Jet A fuel in Belize per year, I would love for fuel prices to decline in Belize. But on the other hand I love Belize, like so many other visitors because of the lack of industrialization. And the BIG issue will be who gets the $$$. I wonder how many Belizians are skilled in the oil business. Jobs will most likely be scarce for the local population. No crying if they build the refinery in your backyard! cool

C'mon folks, thats not enough oil to justify a refinery. Any oil produced here will be shipped to Turks & Caicos refinery or maybe Venezuela. This has to be good for the Belize economy.

Exactly the point about oil spills. On a serious note,Jesse. How are they going to get a tanker close enough to on and off load? This makes for some really interesting logistics. I hope it works and prices come down and the economy is bolstered by the project. Like papashine sez...very interesting! cool

I would be interested in under what scenario you think finding oil in Belize would equate to lower fuel prices for Belizeans, or any benefit to Belizeans other than any jobs drilling might create.
If it is produced by private investment, it would be sold at market price. If the Belize Government is involved, well frown

As I said earlier....the oil (1000-5000 barrels)isn't all in one spot and therefore is most likely going to be too costly to get. If they were able to punch a few wells and get that many barrels it would be but the cost of punching hundreds of wells all over belize, land leases, etc., would make it too costly to pump.

cheers!
