Many people are putting their hands together and forming a chain of help. Bless them all.

It's going to be a long long haul.

I just found out today my friends are ok, thank God.

If you're in Houston and want to donate, stay tuned to the news. They are redirecting people to take donations elsewhere although, it's brought back to the George R. Brown after sorting. Yesterday I did a variety of things such as sorting women's clothing, hand out water to the other volunteers and take the victims "shopping". Shopping was pretty fun and cool to meet and get to know them. They've got a really good system going at the George R. Brown and I know they will need more volunteers during the week. Also, at the George R. Brown, they've really got a lot going on for them such as showers, hair cut facility, playground for the kids, clowns entertaining the children, a nice cafeteria, first aid, doctors working round the clock... it's nice and definitely what they need! SBC has a ton of phones set up to help them locate family members. I saw lots of Priests/Rabbi's (sorry if I spelled that wrong) and other Religious figures giving guidance. It was quite nice.

I'm glad Houston has facilities that can accommodate because what they need right now is anything and everything!

Thank you all who have helped/prayed/donated for them. They are truly very grateful!

Travelqueen, thank you for taking the time to give us information.

Good news today the Walmart evacuees will have their jobs at other locations.

LOLOL, who hates Wal Mart? I must have missed that thread!

Chloe, you said something about Wal Mart jobs, does that mean they're hiring? These people are looking for jobs. I've tried helping them as far as giving suggetions for what they're qualified to do but I don't know who's hiring.

Gwen, your family was in NOLA and relocated to Houston with their jobs? That's great news!!!

IF YOU'RE OUTSIDE OF HOUSTON:

Luggage donations needed
As the crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina continues, Continental Airlines (not sure about other carriers) has become aware of one specific way people outside of Houston can help. There is an immediate need for luggage on wheels in good condition. People can help by going to their local Baggage Service office and asking for an "Expedite" tag, marking it "Hurricane Katrina Relief" and writing "IAH" as the destination. Ask that it be put on the first flight to IAH. All roller bags sent for this purpose must be empty; do not pack any relief items inside.

Travelqueen, it was stated, Walmart employees from the Katrina areas can go to any location of Walmart to continue their employment.

I work for a temporary labor office in Florida and we are checking into helping as many people as we can. Day labor is better than no $$ ,right?

Here at the end of the pipeline, in deep south Texas, I'm waiting a call back from HRL CO baggage service person, checking to see if they are setup here to start receiving, the luggage/baggage, as Travelqueen stated.
This is certainly something my community can do, our small airport is very easy to navigate.

Travelqueen, thank you for the additional info. My family lived in NOLA, and are feeling blessed that they are able to live and work in Houston as of today. A new chapter they look forward to. I plan on heading out the Philly Airport in the morning with luggage, again thanks for the info. I am sure those you have been helpful to have greatly appreciated all you've done and continue to do. Keep up the good work!
