Roatan, Honduras. Was fun but cut my time short and headed to AC a few days early. Definately recommend it here more than there but glad I went.
Guatemala. Recommend a few days there if you have enough travel time, very neat place to visit for a few days but if you only had a few days I'd still recommend just coming here.
Costa Rica. Been all through Costa Rica for 5 weeks. Beautiful, still think Belize is more beautiful but there are neat things to see there. I prefer the carribean side of Costa Rica vs. the Pacific.
MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST ARENAL VOLCANO(though I got lost in the middle of nowhere in the cloudforest so I was hours late and had a horrible time!)
CANAPY TOURS TORTUGUERO WATERFALLS MOUNTAIN BIKING....
If I returned, I'd like to Whitewater raft there. I hear that is good there.

Pacuare & Reventazon rivers are a hoot! III's & IV's.....they'll get the adrenalin pumping for sure.
Puntarenas is nothing more than a place to pass thru going from one place to another. Costa Rica's armpit, in my opinion.
Manuel Antonio & Jaco nice beachy area & lots a critters in the protected areas (and often lotsa 2 legged whales sunning themselves)
Then, when you've had enough of that, head to BZE!

Interesting, Puntarenas is known for some of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica and a great location to be at for close day trips.
There is "north puntarenas" and "south puntarenas" both of which offer different things to do.
"Puntarenas is the largest region of Costa Rica, located south of Guanacaste. Puntarenas city is the largest central Pacific city and known for her fishing sports and some of the nicest beaches."

Algonguin Park in Ontario by canoe after the blackflies and before the mosquitoes. It's not the beach but it rules!

First, don't get me wrong, I have loved San Pedro and it's people since my first visit in 1982. But in 1974 I found Melaque Mexico, a little fishing village about 40 miles north of Manzanillo. It's still very similar to S P in the 80's except you won't find much English or good snorkeling or diving, but the beach and fishing are fantastic. The people are warm and friendly once you get to know them and it is MUCH less expensive. Personally I am rip and torn between them, and S P would win, hands down if it wasn't so expensive. Just my two cents worth; Dan'l
