A casita or cabana usually implies a free standing unit and it is like Caye and Key.
A villa can be anything from a free standing house to a 1 bdrm unit and usually has a kitchen.
Hope this helps.

Villa = village, small town
Casita = (from casa, house or home) small house
Cabana = hut, cabin, cottage

Or whatever the marketing departments think you want it to mean :-)

The Spanish translation of Villa is a small village, but in English it is often used to describe a larger detached house or free standing house in its own grounds. Therefore the perception is size and quality from Villa down to Cabana: before the marketing spin.

That said a lot of the finest resorts here have cabanas with thatched roofs that are high end so ........

A Villa is usually a condo...that doesn't want to be taxed as so. :rolleyes:
