Jaguar Reef is extremely groomed and there are signs that indicate you should stay on the path, not the sand.
I have walked past that lodge many many times, wondered what would happen if you walked off the path, but I didn't venture smile

I must say it looks lovely and is in competition with Pleasure Cove on the south side and Hamanasi on the north. All are very nice.

I don't wish to discourage anyone from staying in that area, it really is picture perfect.

We just recently had looked into the same two places to visit and decided against. Personal reasons.

Keep looking and then see if the Jaguar Reef is the place to stay. It may be smile

I was at Jaguar Reef a week or so ago (I've stayed there several times in the past) and spent a night at Coco Plum Caye.

I've always liked Jaguar Reef ... and its neighbor Hamanasi, too. Coco Plum was pretty nice. Friendly island manager, air-conditioned cabanas, some snorkeling.

There are lots of choices, but I think most people would like Jaguar Reef and Coco Plum.

I can highly recommend Jaguar Reef's neighbor Hamanasi. I honeymooned there last November and can't say enough good things about it. Service is amazing, the grounds are meticulously groomed daily, the restaurant is fantastic (and flexible to meet your needs), great pool, I could go on and on.

The beach at both Jaguar Reef and Hamanasi is usually empty as most guests go out diving all day. We also took advantage of the Cahal Pech/Xunantinich day trip, which was fascinating. The treehouse suites at Hamanasi are perfect for some peace and quiet with some privacy.

I should add about Coco Plum Caye that the sandflies there can be pretty bad, at least when the breezes die down. My kids slept with the windows open one night (their A/C didn't work) and by morning they were covered in bites. The sand flies are so small they can come through the screens.

Hopkins also has some ferocious sand flies at times, but this trip they were not a problem at either Hamanasi or Jaguar Reef.

I'm sorry I didn't touch base with you. Got so jammed up I didn't get to see a lot of people and places I wanted to see. Next time!
