Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions about places to go to see wildlife in Belize - other than the zoo or the Ape Sanctuary? We prefer moderate priced places to stay and maybe a little adventure.

We are starting our trip with a week on Ambergris Caye and some fishing with Capt. Bicho. We then fly to Tikal for 3 nights. After that we fly back to BZE get a rental 4WD and take off. We are planning a stay at Jaguar Paw (our expensive splurge) to do some zip-lining.

After that we are really wide open for what to do and where to go. We’d love to see some wildlife, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, etc. We have 12 days to just go where ever. Maybe do some canoeing or kayaking. … We leave Thursday. Lan do you have any thoughts?

Life is what happens while you are making other plans.

No Apes, brown howler monkey, locally called baboon. Monkey River near Placencia (contact [email protected] for kayaking/camping trips), New River trip to Lamanai, Crooked Tree are just a few with easy to access with regulary scheduled tours. Moderately priced jungle with a roof, meals and place to shower-Che Chem Ha, where the cave of the same name is, in Cayo. Their guides can take you into deeper bush and on overnight camping/kayaking too. Plenty other similiar places all over the country.
