Am hoping somebody can help me out here. A friend of my son's has applied for a Marine Biology internship at Spanish Bay Conservation and Research Center in the Drowned Cayes. Anybody know anything about the center? I assume she knows the basics, is more interested in finding people with experience with the center. You can e-mail me directly at [email protected] and I will forward anything you send to Chris.

9 miles from Belize City, this is where they plan to cage dolphins for photo opportunities with humans, mostly for the delight of those horrible cruise ship passengers. A very dear and sincere friend of mine is at the helm and I believe, will do the best job they can for these intelligent creatures, some of whom have higher IQ's than a few of our world leaders. They are just starting out, your son will be amongst the first to intern.

Thanks Katie, I will forward your message to Chris, who is a friend of my son's, by the way. My kid is in the Peace Corps in El Salvador and probably wouldn't be involved in this kind of project!

Appears so, Dr Self Sullivan is attached to the dolphin componant and is their designated scientist, fielding questions about the project during public hearings.

"I checked out the message board as well as some other links to the project and it seems that Dr. Caryn Self-Sullivan is a respected scientist down there, working mostly with the manatees every year in the summer months with the help of her logistics interns (the position i am applying for) and the volunteers from Earthwatch. I believe that I have all of the information that I will need to apply, so please don't bother digging any deeper (unless you are interested). However, if I am accepted as an intern, I will be bugging you again for Belize info! Here is a link to her project in case you or anybody from the message board is interested:

I don't know what the dolphin project is about, I hope nobody is exploiting them. I would like to know more about that if anybody replies to you concerning it, for example if they need a dedicated young scientist at the front line for the war against the exploitation of animals...I may be able to recommend someone:) Anyway, thank you again for helping me out-- wish me luck as I continue to search for work. I'll let ya know how things turn out for me, and please keep in touch."
Wanted to share this message with you that I got from Chris. I must admit that i am still confused.

Putting dolphins in a cage and having them accosted by tourists day in and day out - I'd call that exploiting them plenty.
I'd like to see a dedicated scientist cut the fence and let them out.
Then I'd like to see that dedicated scientist knock some sense into the heads of people who want to take a free and intelligent animal and torture it.
That's what I'd like to see .........
