Here in SW Florida "the season" is starting to heat up, and we have doubled our population. Those of us who both live and work here have already changed the way we do things. Groceries at 8 AM, every back road I can find, but still plan on twice as long to get there, forget eating out, except maybe between 2 PM and 3:30 PM. Try to anticipate the accident areas, and avoid. Forget shopping for anything except necessities. At least I can now do most banking online!

The point--I was wondering how the permanent residents in San Pedro feel about the high season there. Any life patterns changed? Concessions? Resentments? I realize that businesses need this time to make their money, but what about folks, like me, on a steady salary, or those who are retired? I would love to hear some of the thoughts on this. Thanks, Kris

Always a price to pay in many ways, to live in the warm sun.

We do the same things you mention above Kris48 - but no resentments - except for when we catch the flu - those darned tourists bring it every year mad

We learn to avoid the busy tourist restaurants during season - or call ahead to order lunch and BC's barbeque.

El Divino, Capricorn, etc book a day in advance for a "special" dinner.

Allow more time on the commute each day.

Let tourists cut in line occassionally.

Hey, we thrive on tourism - gotta luv 'em.

Come back soon - ye hear - mon laugh

Thanks, Amanda! About what I thought. One of the reasons we won't be back until June (and then there's lobster, hmmm, maybe the main reason!) We will be there the last two weeks of June, but a few days of turf first. ArtZ--The 48 could stand for a lot of things--take your pick: part of my house address, 4 kids, 4 spouses/significant others, my lucky numbers, or something related to age. Take your pick.
