The University of Belize is trying to raise 50 scholarships for the University, mainly targeting areas of needs such as Agriculture, Nursing and National Research Management. Because of the cost of boarding and lodging, many students simply can not afford to attend the University. Because they are a government subsidized organization, there fees are not as costly as it would be. There faculty is made up of 96 educators who are from the industry, the private sector and abroad. They also have about 103 staff members and 2,300 students of which one third are full time students. There are several ways in which you can sponsor a student. The University of Belize provides companies and beneficiaries with the chance to invest in Belizean youth and their education. This investment can be made through the sponsoring of a scholarship for a Belizean Student. It will give the student the opportunity to study at the University of Belize and become a part of the future development of the country. Benefits of sponsoring a scholarship are derived through various means. The main benefits that make sponsoring youth and their education worth the while are that sponsoring a scholarship:

1- is tax deductible:

2- is an investment in the future and will ultimately help the development of Belize;

3- provides you and the company with a special invitation and award at the President’s Dinner:

4 – presents you and the company with the opportunity to reserve a special table at the President’s Dinner.

(Not to mention the opportunity of providing a Belizean an opportunity of a lifetime)

There was then a slide show presentation showing the dorm in Belmopan, the many campuses and research stations throughout the country.

The University is divided into four faculties as follows:

1) Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health which offers:

Associates Degrees in:

a) Medical Laboratory Technology

b) Pharmacy

Well, after their little "demonstration" the other day, which appears to have been an attempt to incite a riot - with children in the midst - I know I won't be making a donation to the UB this year.

Don't people think about the consequences of their actions?

There is a right way, and a wrong way to protest. Attempting to drag high school children into political matters was both immature and irresponsible.

I'm actually incredibly proud of these kids and think the current situation and how we plan to deal with it is the best civics course they could have signed up for. I marched for King in 1963 with my parents when I was 9. Demonstrated against Vietnam and for womens rights a few years later. All of which contributed to my political and social maturity and responsibility. This is about their future and I love how they are doing their parents job for them by being vocal about the problems. The students demonstration ended and the gangs, waiting for this opportunity, took advantage of the confusion and dark and rampaged. I'd give alot of these kid an A.

Yes Katie but deliberate acts of vandalism and robberies are wrong and should not be rewarded

The unrest is about issues, not people. The scholarships should be about people, not issues. I looked at a few different videotapes of the looting and didn't see students amongst them.

Huh? Students look like you and I. I don't think they wear school IDs and uniforms whilst they are looting.

Politics, issues, work, living, studying - its all about the people. And people that are asking for consideration and charity should probably not be throwing stones.

The actions of a few can negatively affect the many.
