My friends and I are from NYC. We are taking the PADI classes up here and will finish our certs with the dives in AC. We need 4 dives to complete it, and we figure we want to do the Blue Hole after we've finished. Can anyone recommend a good dive shop where the dives are cheap and the operator is well respected?

Thanks

Just my NSHO but I don't think you should dive the Blue Hole immediately after certifcation.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

YES do not.

Just about every shop charges the exact same4 for dives. If you are looking for Cheap, diving is not cheap here. BUT if you compare to anywhere I have been diving, you get what you pay for. AMAZING diving.

Well respected...Amigos and Protech.

Is it that difficult? Maybe we will go there and not all the way down. I just have to see it!

there is nothing much to see wihtout going down and you can not dive just half way down if you are a new diver as the divemaster is 140 down and can not see you/assist you. I recommend coming to BZ and there are many other awesome dives and things to do in BZ.

Save the Blue Hole for another trip. Try the Turneffe Atolls. Just as nice and you don't have to worry about the Blue Hole issues an new diver might encounter.

Also, all the dive shops in San Pedro can do a referral for open waters. Just remember that those take two days to complete. Also, search the links from the main page for contact info on the dive shops.

There are many great dives shops.
I did my cert dives with Amigos del Mar and I would definately recommend them.

I also would not recommend diving the Blue Hole as your first dive post certification for the reasons given above. Also, it is pretty expensive.
