I have friends coming in to visit later this month. They're interested in visiting Lamanai. I've never been. Can we visit via the mainland using my vehicle or is it only accessible by boat going up river? Thanks!

cheers!

Lamanai Outpost Lodge and the ruins can be reached using your vehicle. You can also drive to Tower Hill Bridge (OW) and catch a boat up the New River as well, may make it a bit exciting.

You can also fly in.

The drive from OW to Lamanai is not very interesting other than at Shipyard, the rest is mainly cleared farmland.

Much better to take the boat ride from OW to the lodge. The river is pretty much uninhabited for the hour or so ride (can be up to 2 hours depending on how many times you ask your guide to stop.) Lots to see.

The boat ride and Lamanai are well worth the visit - a highlight of our holiday on AC last year!
