SIN, nice quote. I toasted my fallen brothers and sisters from Viet Nam today.

Coming to you from the beautiful Oley Valley.

Went over and helped my 81-yr old Dad, who's an Iwo Jima vet, do some things around the house. It really sucks to watch somebody like him as his body is failing on him, and also puts the troll bickering on this board into "mis-perspective", for lack of a better word.

Please thank you father for his service - personally, from me.
Everyone should read "Flags of Our Fathers" by James Bradley. (an account of Iwo Jima, written by the son of one of they guys in the famous flag-raising photo).
I spent this weekend watching most of "Band of Brothers". Have to finish it another day.

My Dad was drafted when he was 18, and still doesn't talk much about the actual combat parts of it.

My dad passed away almost twenty years ago. He was regular army , signed up 2 months before WWII started, served his time in the Pacific. I never heard him say one word about his time in the service, except to curse out a politician once whom he had served under. I miss him greatly. My mom married him before he signed up, but he came back a scarred unememotional man who never said I love you or hugged any of us kids growing up. Now that I am older I can understand why, and try to understand what he went through. There was no POST traumatic stress syndrome then, these men had to just suck it up and go on with their lives. I spent years with him in the East Orange NJ vets hospital and saw things that still make me shudder. God bless those who are alive and gave their all for us!
