My husband and I will be staying at the Jaguar Paw for a few days. When we leave, we would like to continue our trip by traveling to the Guatemalan border. Could you please suggest how we might make this trip. Would there be a way to leave from JP without having to return to Belize City? What would you estimate the cost of the trip to be? We are thinking about taking a cab or bus rather than flying and then flying on the return trip. I really have NO idea how to find out about transportation so any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

I am sure JP could arrange a transfer. or I have a driver in BZ City who could probably do it - pick you up at JP and drive you to the border. Email me. I would guess the cost would be about $200 USD. Cheaper would be to have JP drop you at the western hwy and catch a bus.

It's only a few miles from Jaguar Paw to the Western Highway. They could drop you there, and you could catch a bus going west -- there's frequent service. Any bus the few express buses will stop and pick you up. The bus would cost you just a couple of bucks, quite a savings!

The bus sounds good to me! Will JP be able to tell me when the buses are coming or do you just stand out on the road? About how long would the trip be from JP to the guat border?

One more question. I inquired at JP about transportation from the airport to the lodge. They told me a transfer would be 75. Isn't there a less expensive way to do this? Couldn't one take a bus here as well. Of course if you took a bus, how would you contact JP when you arrived to pick you up on the highway.

JP should have the bus schedules or else they would drop you on the highway and you would wait for the bus. They run frequently. about 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to the border. Yes, you could take a bus to the driveway of JP. If you did that, I would suggest calling JP when you are in BZ City and know which bus you will be getting on. Then they could have someone to meet you on the highway. Much less hassle to take the transfer for $75.
