I was sent a lovely 5mb video of a doctor pulling a live botfly out of a persons head.

oh come on somebody has to want to see it!!!! i have always hoped to get my own botfly. i drag my head on the ground in the jungle, but so far no luck.

OK..as an ER nurse, I've seen a lot of yucky stuff, but this is one of the yuckiest. I am going to take it to work and show the Drs....they will be so impressed!! When I was a child, I had a pet rabbit who got one of these, except it was black, and the vet took it out. But, in a person, how gross!

The botfly lays its eggs under the skin. It hatches, the larva grows, gets quite big, it has hooks which stop it being easily extracted, it hurts like heck apparently, turns out that humans and dogs make bad hosts so the botfly larva can't mature..if it's not removed it dies and "cauterizes" under the skin.

About 15 years ago my dog had one of these and I was assured by its howling when I removed the larva that it really did hurt.
