Corruption has become a culture in Belize......
"We no longer have principles in Belize. And the excuse we have always used is poverty. Belize has become a free-for-all. Institutional controls have been badly damaged. Itís now a case of whom you know, and whom you pay. Belizean corruption is real"

Anyone have thoughts on this . I did not write it but find it very insightful

I read it on the internet so it must be true.

How much should it cost to run a country of 275,000+ residents???????

How much tax income is there every year??????

How many folks have been caught red handed in the public fund cookie jar????????

BTL, DFC, Social Security, etc, etc....non of them are without scandal.

But the same things go on in most countries, just not as open!!!

It is truly sad. Everytime I read a posting here where this person needs this, or another person needs an operation, or this school needs to be built, or this and that my thoughts always turn to "where the hell is this government that so many people brag about?"

It seems that begging for assistance has become an "art form" in this country. And I don't blame the citizens at all... they have no other choice. The very small government on AC does what it can and their actions are commendable and I am not talking about them.

You know who I am talking about, and they know who I am talking about. Only the people can change things, unfortunately I do not think it is in the cards for Belize.

I was VERY confused about this post on my BILLION thread:
"And if Belize had the same taxation system as the US we would have decent roads, electricy in rural areas, clean water distributed throught the country at an affordable price, a sewer treatment plant in every town, enough schools to cater to the number of children we have etc. etc. etc.

When non-Belizeans complain about the taxes we are required to pay here in Belize I have always wondered if they have considered the taxes that they pay where they come from."

Everyone knows Belize Gov't is corrupt and that there are more than plenty (AND I MEAN P L E N T Y) of taxes collected, AC should be a tropical wonderland.....not unsimilar to Fantasy Island. Remember that one?

Please post your stats on this. I can't understand how you've come to this conclusion. We need to know!

How true this rings.
Just not in the cards. It only takes one Joker to toss the whole kit. It also only takes one person to help check the deck and not stack it.

I read it on the internet so it must be true.
