I hope this weekend, and in particular on Monday, 9-11... we all stop for a moment and give a short prayer for all of those that died on that day in 2001.

Even for the terrorist that died... they were young, impressionable and led down the wrong path by their supposed religious leaders. They died in vain.

I honestly wish that the politicians in Washington would realize that this isn't a Republican problem, it's not a Democrat problem... it's an us problem. If they don't stop the bitching and moaning and games of 'one upman ship', then we all suffer.

With the way things are going, who knows, there may not even be a Belize in a few years.

No, we shouldn't all run around like chickens without our heads but rather walk around as adults, intelligent adults and look for meaningful solutions.

Let us also not forget the thousands of workers suffering from the after affects of the toxic dust produced by the falling towers. Many firefighters, police officers, construction workers etc, have lost lung function and many will continue to have chronic lung problems, and diseases associated from the clean up. These people are not included in any death toll, and are sometimes forgotten in the overall remembrance.

A few days after 9-11; I received an e-mail from a retired NYC firefighter who was working on rescue on "the pile". He said he could not sleep and needed a distraction so he was dreaming of a vacation on the beach and maybe I could give him some advice. He and I struck up a cyberspace friendship. About amonth after 9-11, Hurricane Iris hit Placencia. By then fireman Bobby knew a bit about Belize. Virtually all of the men in his family are either police officers or firemen in NYC. The losses and grief in his circle were unimagineable ---- and yet .........(here's the meat of the story) he and his family pooled ALL their vacation money and sent it to me to donate to hurricane relief in the villages of Toledo in southern Belize.
About 6 months later, Bobby came for a visit to Ambergris Caye and stayed with us for 10 days or so. He was such a nice man - incredible reallly. And that is at least one good thing that came our of 9-11. God Bless Bobby and his generous, unselfish fellow firefighters and officers. They are the heros of the day.

thank you Diane for your generous spirt and your concern for the suffering that exists on so many different levels in our difficult world. And, for helping when you can......
you are truly a beacon of goodness........
