(I posted this in the AC forum area but am eager to get responses so I'm posting here also!)

We are planning our 1st trip to AC and are thinking that it would be a good idea to spend a couple of days/nights on the mainland rather than do a number of back and forth trips. From our research so far I think we want to stay somewhere in the Cayo area ... easy access to ruins, caves, rivers, jungle.

The problem is that I'm suffering from info overload. confused

ANY input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

(We are going in May if that makes any difference.)

San Ignacio has no shortage of places to stay depending on your budget and your interests. The ruins of Caracol and Tikal are both about two hours away, the small Cahal Pech site is right in San Ignacio, Xunantunich and El Pilar ruins are only a few miles outside of town.
My wife and I stayed at the Cahal Pech Village in December and loved our time there. Tours to Tikal and Caracol ran about $90 US per person.
