Why did they close? Did the family move back to Thailand? I loved their food!

John and his wife made us feel like royalty on mrs. reaper's birthday last May. We were the only customers! The food is fantastic.

They are still here. I think they were looking for another authentic Thai cook to help so the wife wouldn't be chained to the kitchen all night.

I talked with John on Saturday. His wife has left the country and he is no longer pursuing the hiring of Thai cooks to take her place. The restaurant/building/home are for sale and the restaurant is not going to reopen. It was one of my favorite restaurants and I will certainly miss the Weeping Tiger - one of the best plates on the island.

Live the life less ordinary.

What a shame. She made great food.

Actually, although the restaurant is for sale (what isn't here?) John is actively pursuing finding a chef. He just isn't finding much success. He does hope to reopen at some point, ideally for the season though that's looking unlikely. Tipi seems no longer to be a part of it, though the circumstances are rather strange. She enrolled in a full-time college course in England that doesn't end until next summer.

But the answer to the up-front question "why?" is ..... no-one knows, least of all John.

why is this strange and how is this our business... I don't think the "why" needs to be answered. It's privacy and right to live how she chooses.

I agree, but it means Tastes of Thailand doesn't re-open and that is our business.

My money is on Journey's End buying it again. (At one time one of the original owners lived there, when JE really WAS the playground of Hollywood, but no more). It is situated right between their two existing properties... but they won't tell anyone it's theirs. eek
