I thought all the piers in San Pedro were considered public, since they are all on Queens property. I know there are rules on how long you can keep your boat tied up, but everyone can use them. Why then, can some business's rent out spaces?
I was in San Pedro last week, when Fido's manager told one of his employee's to untie a boat that was tied to their pier. They had tied up while shopping and having lunch. When they came back, their boat was being towed back by someone who found it floating. Can anyone tell us the rules and why someone can get away with trying to destroy someones property?

Did the boatowner at least ask Fido's for permission first? Might not seem necessary to ask with the laws governing the use of all piers, but it could thwart some hard feelings later. And what would the consequences be to the un-tier - is there legal remedy for the boatowner?

Try emailing the San Pedro Town Board and ask them exactly what the laws are on pier usage.

sptb@btl.net

I also heard a speech earlier this year when the Prime Minister visited. They had a question and answer session and I beleive Melanie Paz asked some questions about this issue. Can't remember the details now...but at the time she seemed to have a pretty good handle on the situation.....maybe you could call or email her at Amigos Del Mar Dive Shop.

I think the a lot of the problem stems from who spent the money to build the pier, who pays the annual fees, who spends the money to maintain them and in light of all this....who has the right to use it.

I think it's been an ongoing problem. Most businesses do not mind you using for a short time.....but there have been incidences of abuse of usage and unruly individuals that have caused some discord.

That prompted a whole new issue of security.
Who pays for that?

Let us know when you find out. It would be good to know what the rules are.

I was present when Melanie grilled da P.M., and one of the nuiances of these bridges into the Carribean is that one side of the dock is controlled by the owner, the other side is public. I couldn't say which is which, but I can say that the dock owners have lots of problems, other than da Paisano.

The North side of every pier is supposed to be public.
