Hey Lan,

my dad is looking SERIOUSLY at retiring to belize, your article in the Where to retire magazine was of great interest to us, but we have a question.

Now what I have read says that you need $2000.00 US per month to qualify, but your article indicated $1000.00 per month SS income or $2000.00 per month from investments. So is it either or, or is in $2000.00 per month period?

It is US$1000 a month if from a pension (including social security) or an annuity, and US$2000 if from investments where the return is not guaranteed and may vary.

1) Many people with US$2000+ in investment income could buy a short-term annuity with a little of that capital and qualify under the US$1000 a month rule.

2) The BTB wants retirees and Belize needs US$, so the BTB is flexible.

3) As a practical matter, retirees are telling me that they only have to deposit US$12000 a year in a Belize bank, even if they qualified under the investment angle.
