We went in early December last year and stayed at Birds Eye View Lodge. Contact Verna Gillett on 225 7027 or

Small but very interesting Village with excellent Bird Watching (which is a great trip, even for those who don't think it sounds like it) and walking. The water levels, and hence size of the lagoons that surround Crooked Tree vary dramatically depending on the time of year. When we were there at the end of wet season the lagoon almost reached the lodge, but at the end of dry season it is a good couple of hundred yards away. Less water generally concentrates the bird life into smaller areas and makes them easier to see, but the boats can't get to as many areas. Cashew Festival would be a fun time to visit which is held each year on a specific weekend in May, I think, but I can't remember which one for certain.
