towels and SHEETS, pillows, (baked lays-- but only if you are addicted like I am). if you have room, take your favorite lamps, (selection is VERY limited there).
i sent down almost everything for the house, including cleaning stuff. but i had a good bit of space. most things are either impossible to find, or mucho expensive.
you may also want to take extra unmentionables, there's no victoria's secret there. and shoes! in fact, i'm bringing down merrill sandles for 2 ladies on thursday.
good luck guys. i'll stop by later this week, or call me at caribe island. i arrive thurs.

Most definitly bedding. It is expensive and the quality in either Belize or Mexico leaves much to be desired. There is a great place in Belize City called "Wagon's" where you can get some amazing prices on cookware, vacumns ,coffe pots, microwaves etc. Since discovering this gem, have stopped trucking a lot of stuff down. There are just a lot of things available now, that hardly make it worth shipping the stuff especially if the items are bulky. Do bring lots of undies, the salt air is murderous on elastic, and more than one expate has had the experience of stepping out of their skivies on Front St.

Pillows and sheets. A good iron skillet is necessary for me. Plenty of golf balls for Bill.

I have been furnishing some homes for folks lately and have found that the supply of formerly unfindable items has improved dramatically.
Lamps - lots of them, affordable and pretty - Mirab in Belize City.
Small appliances - microwaves, blenders, etc. - Dave's Fruniture World, Mirab, Hofius, Corts. Good brands, probably a better deal than paying shipping on old stuff.
Mikado's fabric store in BC is awesome - very inexpensive, amazing selection - make curtains, bed-covers, etc. - for pennies.
Mattresses - Courts - good quality, American-made - decent prices.
Dave's Furniture World has this one incredible deal - a really good boxed set of dishes - complete service for 8 - for $50 BZ. There are other attractive sets available all over - Hofius, Mirab & Daves - all at good prices and not broken as yours may be after shipping from US.
Lately even fine sofa-sets are appearing at Mirab - things you would be proud to show in any home in any place.
Bring sheets, towels, books, hiking shoes, good underwear ..... also jeans and women's shorts (men's clothes are abundant and nice).
Right now throw-rugs are nearly impossible to locate - I finally found a few excellent ones at Hofius.
If you are feeling affluent - visit Treasures in BC - incredible stoneware from Equador, wonderful high-quality leather goods from Columbia, stainless steel flatware, kitchen ware, crystal, etc. All in impeccable taste.

Diane mentioned Mirab and they are great. They and Courts have a good selection of rugs (more in the 5x7 to room size. Very nice , I bought an 8x10 sisal for one of my bedrooms at about a third of the cost I paid for purchase and shipping from the states. Diane, where is Treasures? I thought Josie and I had cornered the market for shopping in B.C. but missed that one.

Treasures just off the Northern Hywy, near the turnabout by the old HL glass office. For really fine woodwork (furniture, doors, etc) contact Elements in BC.

Regarding the throw rugs, they are readily available in Guatemala. Not always cheap, but beautiful. A well-seasoned iron skillet will last forever. Griswold is the great old brand to look for at antique stores, ect.
