I am new to this site and am looking to hear from other epats that have move to Belize. Being newly single ( divore) and loosing most in ti, and the government taking the rest, I am driving my Jeep wrangler down and looking to rent a furnished place for a while. I do not need the american type rental, just electricity, hopefully hot water and a place to park my Jeep. Also some sort of social life ( do not need the young single scene as I am in my mid 50's) and a little peace and quiet.
I have explored Costa Rica but the language was a barrier, and Australia but it was too expensive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear TMONTANA; Hi, I too am permanently moving down to Belize city or nearby this mid-November. I am an unemployed airline pilot seeking emolyment but the regs. are stiff, a $1500 work permit I acn swing, however; you must demonstrate that only you can perform the job that a local cannot which in my profession should succeed, I hope.I have a pilot friend in san pedro and one in the city council, who will help me IF I commit to volunteering to a three month project, which might be making forms in which to pour concrete sidewalks which is BACKBREAKING work, but I wil just have to go at my own pace for $20US under the table a day, be humbler then thou, always friendly to eveerybody, period, and I should be o.k.. I do speaak fairly good spaish and have a PMattitude, 48y.old, and love the hispanic people.I'm told I can get a 1bdrm. apt. for $400/mo.and a maid for $100/mo. for three meals and cl3eaning a day! I'm a slob so I might give it a go, but I too am clueless as to where it SAFE to live and where it is quiet, inexpensive rent but running water, cable(??), and nearby grocery store as I won't have a car right away. Are you looking for a co-driver as I live in Portland, Oregon and plan to fly for $666. PLZ let me know any living/ENTAL info. your able to gather, and I the same. sincerely, Jon P. at [email protected] ----]

My name is John P., and I am very determines to teach elementary school in Belize. I was an Airline Pilot for 13 years,a Federal F.A.A.Investigator. It's God's calling for me to teach the poor children to reaad andd write so that THEY may have a chance in their live's to succeed, with no pay, just a safe place to live and I pay rent. Somebody PLEASE refer me to the rigght persons'? Speak semi-fluent spanish. A pilot position there would be great as well. [email protected] Thank you.

Don't count on work. The Pilot might be able to get some work but it will sure be difficult for the lady. You know there is a different price for housing for the americans there. You will need to look around. May want to check Caye Caulker or Corozal. Corozal you can drive to but I don't know what you would do with the jeep on the Cays.
