HI! Can someone tell me the average depth of the San Pedro Lagoon and the shallow bay to the west of Ambergris Caye. I am shopping for a cruise boat and need to know if the depth of draft is going to be critical in that area. We want to move there. Thanks!

Inches in areas, a few feet in others.

The San Pedro Lagoon and River is deep enough for a small cruiser, Thunderbolt (three 250hp outboards) docks back there.

Chetumal Bay, leeward side of Ambergris, can get very shallow (inched) outside of the main channels.

Thunderbolt runs to Corozal through the bay.

I'm neither a sailor nor a capt., but I have spent 60+ days fishing all around AC-northwest, west almost to the mainland, and south/southwest 2/3 of the way to Belize City. I'd be reluctant to stray from the main channels w/o some experience. Water depths just change so quickly and drastically it seems like trouble. Also don't recall ever seeing what I'd call a recovery vessel.

Flyfishing my way through mid-life crisis.

I would recommend getting something with a draft of less than 4 feet if you need something big enough to sleep on. If not, I would get 3 feet, and the less the better.

Thunderbolt travels at such a speed that it does not have a deep draft. A nice deep channel has been created for the new barge dock into the Lagoon...although there is a shallow spot in the lagoon of maybe 3 feet, or so, enroute to San Pedro.

Gone fishing!!
