We want to relocate to Belize!! 'We' include myself, my husband, and my 31 year old daughter. I am a Registered Nurse with a BSN, working on my MSN. My daughter is a very accomplished baker, with the additional skills of waitress and cook. My husband has a broad knowledge of automobiles, and was employed as a manager for a major auto parts store (AutoZone) here in the states.
We would love to gather some insight into how best to find job opportunities available to us prior to our move. Can anyone help us? Thanks to all of you!
(My husband and I visited Ambergris Caye right before Keith roared through.)

I have dreamed of a Bakery, yes, yes I know there is a bakery, but I have been to France. I am only snooty about bread and pastry.
We all have our addictions, and most folks take care of theirs in the multitude of bars. I much prefer sweets or crusty bread. smile
So please start a bakery. I am sure this would not be easy and I have no idea how you go about getting permission. confused
I do know you will need plenty of MONEY...Time and money.
On a lighter note sure hope that girl of yours can make crusty bread and lemon tarts. Best wishes.

there are several bakeries in AC, which one have you been to? Many sweet breads or crusty bread.

I only know of LaPopular which does make a fairly good Wheat bread. Sweet Basils had an out post -coffee shop/bakery,in SP, that was good for sweets, but they closed or moved.

Where are the other bakeries?
With hard crusty bread?
Also a Rye with caraway?

M&SM, might be hard to make a living with a bakery as there is already a few now; you won't have much chance of working as a nurse--you're not Belizean, and if you've been to the island, you know there isn't much in the way of automobiles. Sooooooo....if you are really serious about moving down here, your best bet is to find a business already open and for sale (and there are alot of those) or open your own. If you do a search on moving to Belize you will find numerous threads of people asking for jobs; the jobs that are here are for Belizeans. Sorry to sound negative, there are ways to move and make a living down here, just don't expect to come and get a job unless it's something that there isn't a 'qualified' Belizean capable of doing. Suggest you come down for a few months to look around and figure out what is available to you. Best of luck!

Don't forget Ruby's...best cinnamon/raisin sweet roll on the island (in the country??). Ruby made a Tres Leche cake for my sister's birthday and it was just grand. There are also several ladies who sell goods from their carts, also excellent.

Come stay in Belize for a few months before you decide to move and try different parts of the country. Visiting and residing are two different things.

In any case, best of luck! We did it!
